I suggest the best bet is the Poetry Library (e-)Newsletter (details below).

The Poetry Library has an events section on their website (http://poetrylibrary.org.uk/ Organisers can register events electronically. If you register for their newsletter (there is a link at the top of their website) you will receive monthly details of events. It also has lots else to offer – such as an electronic database of poetry magazines, & their famous ‘lost quotes’ service.
Another useful source of information (and organiser of poetry and other literature events in the Greenwich area): In-Words (in-words.co.uk).

Thursday 21 December in SE10

Dusk: Solstice Shorts presented by Arachne Press

Reading of stories, poems and songs on the theme of Dusk, taking place in 12 different places as darkness travels from North East to South West. This event will be broadcast live. Please arrive for 5 pm to get refreshments before it begins!

Starts: 5 pm . Entry: By donation – suggested amount £3 (can be more or less depending how you judge your circumstances)

Supported using public funds by Arts Council England, and with the in-kind support of Better Libraries and Royal Borough of Greenwich. They need to match fund grant from the Arts Council – so please give what  you can.

COMPETITION
 
Magma Poetry Magazine 2017/18 Competition open for entries – closing date 15 January 2015. Magma’s 2017/18 poetry competitions are now open for long and short (up to 10 lines) poems.
 
Award-winning poet Mona Arshi is the judge for the Judge’s Prize. The Editors’ Prize is judged by a panel of five Magma Editors. You can enter either or both. !st prize for the Judge’s and Editors’ Prize is £1000, 2nd prize £300 and 3rd prize £150.  Winning poets will be invited to read their poems at Magma Competition Event in Spring 2018.
 
Entry fees: £5 for the first poem, £4 for the second and £3.50 for the third and each subsequent poem. Magma magazine subscribers get reduced fees. You can subscribe to Magma from £18.50 via their Get Magma page.

PNSeL eNEWS is going… but here are other options.
 
There is currently no official successor to PNSEL eNEWS (of which this is the last full issue, although there may be a late December supplement). But there are other excellent electronic sources of information available, for those who wish to attend or promote poetry events in Southeast and South London (or further afield).

“Writing on a Wall”
 
Eltham Arts are inviting entries to this competition on the theme of “What do walls mean to you?”. Whether you think “Something there is that does not love a wall” or agree with Robert Frost’s opponent that “Good fences make good neighbours”, you can express yourself in poetry to this southeast London community and creative project.

Magma Poetry – Film issue

‘Magma Poetry’ magazine is preparing for issue 71 — on the theme of film.  Closing date is 31 January 2018.

They will consider work from previously unpublished poets and for this issue are also willing to consider ‘film-poems’ – combining the two mediums if you happen to be working in that format.

There are also details of the Aldeburgh Poetry Festival weekend – to be held in Suffolk this November – which they are curating this year.

This huge 2nd hand book sale is justifiably popular – always a queue of people waiting to get in when doors open. There is a wide variety of bargains to be found, from second-hand paperbacks to recent review copies.

This is an Amnesty event so – if interested – you can find out about their work to protect human rights worldwide and can choose to sign petitions for current  campaigns.

Latest in ‘World Poets’ series of lecture-performances-with-readings by poet/poetry lecturer Graham Fawcett. Other poets – Wilfred Owen, Siegfried Sassoon, Ivor Gurney, Isaac Rosenberg, and Rupert Brooke – will also feature as part of Thomas’s story, as will his friendship with US poet Robert Frost. Graham will talk about the life connected with the work, particularly Thomas’s discovery of himself as a poet – and encourage audience involvement, as ever.
